Energy Efficiency and UV Protection

Our advice for protecting your home begins with a consideration of heat. Given that 50% of the solar heat entering a home comes in through its windows, we recommend window fashions with honeycomb construction for diminishing the intensity of that heat (and diminishing your air conditioning bills).

The cellular design of a Hunter Douglas honeycomb shade actually traps hot air, allowing it to cool before it enters your room and will increase the energy efficiency of a single pane of glass by five times and more than double the energy efficiency of a double-glazed window.

Likewise in cooler months, a honeycomb shade will help keep heated air inside your home and cold air outside.

Prolonged exposure to the sun's ultraviolet (UV) rays can also damage your valuable possessions—carpets, upholstery and wood furniture. While the level of UV protection Hunter Douglas window fashions provide depends on the fabrics and features you select (and whether your window covering is open, closed, raised or lowered), virtually every Hunter Douglas product filters out at least 75% of the sun's UV rays when closed over double-glazed glass windows. Many of our products provide even greater protection, up to 99% when closed.
